The Maldives are situated just west of the southern tip of India, there are over 1000 islands. Each ‘atoll’ consists of a group of small coral islands varying from one to 100 acres in size. Around 100 of these are for visitors with usually just one hotel on each island.
One of the islands is Mahe which is the capital of the Maldives whilst Hulule serves as the airport. Situated in the dazzling Indian Ocean the islands vary in appearance, size and character and only about 200 of them are inhabited. Some of the islands have perfected a simple Robinson Crusoe lifestyle for the would-be barefoot refugee from a frenetic world. Others, like One&Only Reethi Rah have become the home of elegant little hotel hide aways of understated luxury.
Water sports enthusiasts will be in their element in the Maldives with Scuba Diving and Snorkelling in abundance and the Maldives is also classed as one of the worlds top dive destinations.
